Karatedo

Fightin’Fit is the home of Dojo Kenshikai, a school affiliated with Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karatedo.

The world "karatedo" is comprised of three Japanese ideograms: kara, te and do. Kara refers to the period of Chinese history when the T'ang dynasty ruled China (AD 618-907). Te means "hand" or "technique" and Do signifies the "philosophical way" or "principle" with which to realise oneself. The literal translation is therefore the way to self-perfection through the practice of techniques originating during the T'ang period. The word "karate" was first introduced to Okinawa to designate Chinese fighting techniques which incorporated both bare-hand and armed techniques. The second ideogram for the word kara means "empty" or "free like in the air". Hence karatedo also means the way to self-perfection through the practice of techniques of emptiness where "emptiness" is understood both physically (without weapons) and mentally (with an empty or free mind).

Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karatedo training methods focus on unifying mind, techniques and body through a scientific approach to using empty hands and bare feet in combat.
